Demonstration cum Input distribution of Potato seed materials in Nongagang village under Farmers FIRST Programme.

A programme on Demonstration cum Input distribution of Potato seed materials was conducted on the 22nd of January, 2019 at Nongagang village, Marngar, Meghalaya under the Farmers’ FIRST Project, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam. The main objective of the programme was to improve the farmers’ knowledge on cultivation of potatoes with scientific knowhow for better income. A total of twenty nine (117 nos.) farmer from seven different villages, viz., Purangang, Nongagang, Lalumpam, Sarikhusi, Nalapara, Umtham and Mawphrew attended the programme. Following demonstration, about 1610 kg potatoes tuber (seeds) were distributed to identified of different villages. The seeds were distributed with an objective to encourage farmers to utilize the rice fallow for improving income, and better utilization and management of resources. The programme was coordinated by Dr. H. Rymbai (Scientist - Horticulture), A. Barman (SRF), I. Swer (Field Assistant), L. Khongrymmai (Field Assistant) and Dr. R. Laha (Principal Scientist & PI, Farmers’ FIRST Project, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam).
